I’m Dylan’s dual-certified PTSD psychiatric service dog, the official therapy dog (and let’s be honest, full-time mascot) of Badges & Breakthroughs, and a professional in the field of belly rubs.

Dylan Cade “Blonde in Blue” Bates is the founder and managing partner of Badges & Breakthroughs, Inc., a Maryland nonprofit corporation and 501(c)(3) status pending is a nationwide peer support, coaching, service dog provider, therapy, training, educational, and consulting resource for first responders, veterans, and their families.

Melanie Brower brings the heart of both a law enforcement officer and a clinician to Badges & Breakthroughs. With more than thirteen years serving her community—as a Correctional Officer, Sheriff’s Deputy, and now Federal Police Officer—she’s lived the job from every angle and understands how deeply it can shape the way you think, feel, and show up at home.

George Forsythe spent 26 years as a dedicated Maryland State Trooper working undercover, within HIDA Task Forces, and with the joint Warrant Apprehension Task Force in Baltimore City. After witnessing firsthand the mental and emotional toll that comes with the responsibilities of this line of work, he launched Driftwood Psychotherapy to ensure no first responder would struggle alone.

Jesika is our Business Development Manager and a proud law enforcement family member, so she understands firsthand what it means to love someone who wears the badge.

Paige brings nearly a decade of experience in corrections, where she served in specialized roles including Correctional Response Team, Drill & Ceremony, and as a departmental instructor. Before that, she volunteered as a firefighter — a reflection of the commitment to service that has defined her entire career.

My connection to the mission of Badges & Breakthroughs was immediate. From our very first conversation, there was a beautifully organic bond with the team, their vision, and the heart behind what they're building.
